World Book Day 2019

8th Mar 2019

We had a great day today celebrating the wonderful world of books! Everyone dressed up as their favourite book characters. The costumes looked fantastic on both the children and staff. We had a celebration assembly all about the author Sam McBratney, who wrote the book ‘Guess How Much I Love You?’. Sam is the father of our new secretary Ms Oakes. She told us all about his inspiration for the book, which has sold over 47 million copies and has been translated into 52 languages! Sam has written over 50 other books, which we would encourage the children to try. We are all so excited to have such close contact with a world famous author. Ms Oakes has kindly offered for anyone who has their own copy of the book to bring it into school and she will ask her dad to sign it.

We also has a photo competition for children to have their photo taken reading their book in an unusual location. We had some great ideas-thank you.

Later in the day we had a reading session in which older classes visited the younger children in nursery-P3 and read stories to them. The children really enjoyed this and what a lovely sight to see everyone engrossed in their books. During the day Mr Murphy rang the school bell at different times. When the children heard the bell they had to take out their book and read! He did come and check, so we all had to be quick and keep a book handy under our desks!
